if you plan on buying one of these plan on buying a new pump for it, i never could get the factory pump to do anything it really needs a better pump. and dont buy one if you plan on using it as hob skimmer cause it releases to many micro bubbles

the first day i installed this skimmer there was plenty of bubbles and alot of flow and no foam, but my tanks new and theres nothing really to skim off

after reading what people had to say about this skimmer over the interwebs i decided to mod it.  heres what i did, i inserted a piece of clear tubing into where the inlet to the reaction chamber is. the tube needs to fit firmly and extent to the other side of the chamber. now about the tube i pluged the end of it and cut a slot into the side of it about 1/8 inch tall and 1/2 inch wide. this tube slows down the flow of the water and improves the vortex in the chamber.

now that the flow is decreased it will need to have air pumped into it i used a spare air pump and the valve included to push the maximum amount of air into it as possible without making the pump cut out

now my skimmer has a good vortex and has more foam and has a slower flow of water through it. i also noticed that the foam is less disrupted my large bubbles
