I wouldn't have have the return pump pumping the right side. Seams like it would take away from the head height and not give you the flow you would want in the main tank. I guess it would really come down to how much flow you want. I had mine set up so that the overflow goes into the right and lift side and then baffle so that the return could be in the middle. I would also suggest leaving as much volume for the return so it would not run dry but not big enough to over fill the tank. Are you trying to have your skimmer in the sump? For something that small I would try to have a hang on so I could use the room for some other things.
so what bout using a higher rated return pump with a ball valve????
