I often try to think of a tank as a small natural reef. I believe people would have better luck and more color to their own tank if they would add some plants.  I found this web site http://www.beachwatchers.wsu.edu/ezidweb/seaweeds/index.php and thought how pretty some of these seaweeds are.  It tell a lot about them in their natural environment and how they can turn bad.  But of course like everything to much of anything isn't good.  I thought you might want to check it out.
