Hey T, Maybe the drain tube is long enough to be under water in the bucket causing back pressure, so it builds pressure and releases as Burps. *You could shorten the tube to just pass inside the bucket lid about 2 inches. Check to see that the stink tube is not clogged too.

Yeah, it needs to elevated above the water level for the chamber to drain fast enough. Do you know the rating on this Skimmer?

OK I figured it out. I sat the protein skimmer on a block it raised the gate valve above the water level in the sump then it started working, I'm guessing to much pressure on the line when it was closer to the water level. It worked is all I know
Hey guys I am have a problem with my MRC MR 1 protein skimmer, it seems no matter what I do I cant get my water level low enough everytime I plug the pump up it runs through the skimmer and all the way into the collection cup i have the gate valve all the way open and took the packing out of the silencer. Anybody have any suggestions on what to do next? I just dont think my coralife 65 skimmer is cutting it I need to try to get this thing going this weekend I think, or bad things are going to start to happen
