So do these seem about right

180 gallon WITH metal welded stand: $400

125 with cherry wood cabinet: $350

6ft current light with metal halides and leds: $300

UV sterilizer: $150

thats with me keeping sumps and some of the other stuff incase i need it later

well with everything i got about 1200 in everything

but I can get 130 back out of the pump for 120, still got receipt for it

The current lights went for $800 new

The uv sterilizer Is like $360 new

whats just an empty 125 no sump just stand go for? same for 180?

then what can a sump go for?

I'm down for parting out long as i can get my money back out

might keep the power head and pump incase i get another tank.

Oh gotcha, didn't know if he was going to take in any more used stuff or not. Hm, IDK what you could ask for things. It all depends on what you paid I guess, and what those products go for new. The tanks seem nice, so I'm sure you can get a good amount out of them.

Or the other way around and you could  get the 125 lol, but somethin tells me the 24ft depth on the 180 might be tempting

I preferably would rather start fresh. You don't want to inherit other peoples problems. Thats my take on things. Plus doing a build is fun.

see i knew the goby was not the best choice of fish esp with a non established tank. I found another tank in ashville but the guy wants 300, looks a little more established, has a hob skimmer, i think better lighting know its led. no stand that I saw. Live stock is just a clown, damsel, and a bubble anemone which the clown seems to be hosting. More liverock etc. and I found a 50 gallon tank that looks to be square for $30 bucks, just the tank.

wouldnt be so bad if i could get my other tanks moved

Looks liek a fairly fresh set up tank, which is a bad idea to have the manderin, and the starfish. Lol. If you did pick this up, replace the HOB filters and put a sump on that thing! Since your going FOWLR I would worry too much about the lighting right now. Oh, and of course more rock would be a benefit :)

Yeah could be good for me though i eat out way too much and looking at what stuff cost i'm like hey thats like one trip to here or a couple trips there.......lol could be the best diet ever.

Still have both tanks

I did find an up and running 47 gal bowfront for 200, no skimmer couple HOB filters, bigger ones, heater, has a goby, shrimp, some crabs, serpent star, choclate chip star, and the tank is super clean i didn't see any salt creep etc but i alsop didn't see any coraline growth......which worried me no crust on intakes to filters etc.

oh she wants $200

To be honest thats kinda the plan now haha, I could do $1000 cash and trade for a small setup, going to look at that one at A and E again tomorrow see exactly what kind of deal I can get. I would love do do a tank like they display the corals in, smaller obviously and I know you cant sit and look in through tall glass but i love those things figure a 55-75 and one of those id be on hog heaven. Till I move to a tank friendly environment.

yeah that would be a good deal for someone.

i would just set you up a 75 g and if anyone says anything just tell them its a 55 they wont know the difference

Yeah ive been thinkin about keeping the 180 until I can but its a huge thing to just hagging out in the room without using it.

Oh well leases only last song long..............

if someone from here wants everythying I got both tanks lights, sumps etc, I'll let it all go for

$1200 figure thats about the best I could do on it.

its a water damage thing I live on the first floor, oh and she said alot of people dont take care of fish tanks when they get to big to move? I just wanted to look at her and be like yep once I couldnt take my 75 gal on a walk anymore it just went to ****......

Damn, that sucks. It's too bad you can't even go with a simple 75, it is just a bit wider front to back than a 55 gallon. I'm on the same page as Joe as I think the 55 gallon is too narrow. It's weird they limited you to certain gallons, is it because of possible water damage or something? Or do you just live in an upstairs apartment and they are worried about weight issues? If so, that is completely understandable.

yeah if i could break my lease id be gone but its air tight no buy out option kind of lease........

Yeah just got a bomb shell yall, I have to get rid of both tanks........managment luckily signed something saying i could have a tank but looks like a 55gal is my biggest option. Lease tech worded to say no tanks but i got it in writing i can have one but thanks to past idiots i found out today putting to large a tanks to many floors up...........yeah so the 180 and 125 and all are hitting the road.

I will still need yalls help with the smaller build of course but gotta find a tank first.

gonna be asking 1000 on 180 setup for everything unless any of the parts could be used with a smaller build. obviously the current light cant be so it goes with the 180.

and Ive got my 125 on here lowered to 600.

Anybody want both setups i'll make some deals do some trading etc.

those mag drive pumps are good should be just enough for the filtration on a 180 but not any extra for runing reactors or anything else. with the sump its going to be a gamble it does have a skimmer built in but idk how well it will work but i would for sure get rif od the bio balls and convert the trey into a filter sock holder. but honestly you might just want to sell it and build you a new one. i would buy a 40gb and you could make a kick a55 sump out of that. ill be happy to help you cut some acrylic for the pannels to go inside. imo that sump looks like it will be more trouble than its worth. and i think if you went a different route with the sump i will save you a lot of greif down the road.

i like that light fixture though if you put some new bulbs in there you should be good to go. i run phoenix 14ks over my 55 and i kile the color a lot .

ThaBolb, about trading man sounds good i'm looking at a small setup from A and E right now its a 20 gallon long i think, but its got a sump setup etc and led. I think they are wanting around $200 for it with what and and liverock it has. thats the plan right now after selling the 125 so if I could do a smaller setup like that plus cash it be the same as sellin it and buyin another.

here are some 180 equipment pics i snapped before headin out

Sump

IMAG1066.jpg

what i think is a protein skimmer built into sump

IMAG1073.jpg

6ft current light with led/ metal halides (bulbs glow white)

IMAG1068.jpg

UV sterilizer label

IMAG1069.jpg

Shot to show size of sterilizer

IMAG1070.jpg

Pump

IMAG1072.jpg

power head

IMAG1071.jpg

Like i said I may decide to sell this one too just depends, but I am talking with apartment today and my insurance company to see if a tank bust is covered. If not a 55-75 gallon may be what I settle for.

yea man just def dont rush it. plan and plan and plan befor u buy or set up and have a very good idea of what u want and what u can afford to slowly do and it will come togeather. i have look at many takes and thought how in the world did they put together something so magical and compared to how i started doing things i thought i could never get there but now i have the most beautiful tank i could imagine and everyone wants to be me. lol just kiddin but really it will come to u and if u keep the natural aspect of it all in mind and if u take ur time and be patient and really appriciate this for what it is and can be then u will suprise urself at what u can put togeather but the best advise that anyone can give u is learn and learn and learn and when u think u have a great knowledge of what u want then humble yourself and realize that u still dont know anything compared to how much knowledge and info is out there and u will do fine. not to mention there are some great people on this forum who love this hobby as much as i do and are very gererous witht their knowledge and help so always ask for help when u need it and everyone has different opinions of what it should be but u can deciede for yourself what will work best for u. and by the way if u wanna do some trading on one of tose setups u have then let me know and i may have some trades for ya. and if u have any issues u need help with then post it or call me at 946 1980 or someone else in the club and we would be happy to help u.

Yeah lets get some pictures of the stuff that you already have ready for the 180 gallon. That would help better determine what you have, and what you need to do.

lets see some pics of the sump and lights your talking about, oh and of the uv as well, if its not one of those cheap uvs that you hang in the tank you will want to make a manifold on your return pump so you can run it and any other reactors you want.

Hey colby bud, Yeah i've been looking at rock etc cost and its like you said crazy I may be just getting the 180 tested and then setting it off until I can afford to do it properly. Meanwhile I may try and get that smaller set up there at A and E to play with until I can.

Yeah I dont wanna get into a rush to get fish etc in Id rather spend money on getting it right to set up. I was told the lighting should work fine for my fowlr idea, and if I eventually want corals. to be honest i dont mind watchin an empty tank while i take my time choosing whats right. i SUPPOSE the sump is large enough, like i said it looks to have a built in skimmer but i have never hooked up one so i'm not sure. also no clue how to hook up the uv sterilizer etc. Once i get it leak tested I will be asking a huge number of question bout actually getting it up and running.  Also if anyone was interested in my other tank id be willing to do some trading and such for stuff for this tank maybe even another small saltwater tank etc. to use as a frag or QT tank later on.

Ah, never fully trust anyone on Reef Central. There is a lot of good info, and a whole lot of bad info. Lol. Just do a water test on it, leave it up for a few days and watch it, if no leaks, your good! Sounds like you have a fairly nice tank that you won't have to worry about too much. Like colby said, setting up any size saltwater tank is going to cost quite a bit of money. It's just all how interested in the hobby you are. Don't go cheap on some things, because then your just going to end up having to replace those things and just end up sepnding more money overall. If your tank does end up having a leak, its usally an easy fix to replace the silicone. The 75 gallon I have had a leak, I cut out all the silicone and put some new stuff in and has done just fine!

hjason man. it was me u were talking to at aquatics. glad u made it on here. and as for the exploding tank comment. aint gonna happen. at worst u would have a seal fail and then it would just spring a leak but i thought for u to think about it the cost of a tank of that size. setting up a 55 or 75 gal can run into someserious money quick with just sand and rock so just think of a tank that sie cause i have one larger than that and it put a hole in my wallet the size of the grand canyon. lol but it is al worth it to me but its only if u can justify the cost to yourself and whoever else it may matter to.lol hollar at us with any questions or if u just wanna shhot the preverblable shat. lol numbers listed on here if u need to hollar

                                                                           Happy Reefing,

Over on reef central, but yeah alot of these stories seem to leave out the age of the tank, how they had it sitting, if the truly checked how level it was, if they had some unstable rock structure so on and so forth. The seals look good to me but I wont know until I can fill her up and see but before i do that I'm making sure i got one of my pump run with a tube to the bathroom(good thing about apartment i'm close to the tub. If i see any kind of leak I dont care if its a drop that tank getting a 1300 gph water evac.

First, where did you hear about glass tanks exploding? Lol, that just seems like an absurd statement from someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. Like Joe said, if you should have no problem as long as seals are good and the stand is good and level, and you don't have a crazy mantis shrimp.

Yeah it was a fellow i think might be trying to buy A and E, problem is I have nowhere to test the tank since my apartment is a big complex.

haha no i want there but a fellow reef club member Colby or thabolb had a mantis crack the side of his 55 g a while back

and if the tank was made by all glass you should have no worries i would water test it outside for a bit then you should be good to go

ive even heard of people using egg crate on the bottom of the tank to even out the force of the rock on the bottom pannel but i think it might create some weird detritus trap under your sandbed. but i doubt any of that is needed unless you just have a huge pillar of some sort that your worried about then id recommend a piece of acrylic

90% sure its an all glass made tank everything still in boxes like lights overflow kits glass tops all says all glass.

And you wouldnt happen to have been in A and E friday bud? I had a talk with a fella about mantis shrimp punching the glass and forgot to grab his info before i left.
