I started Kalkwasser as well. I started out with 1 tsp in 5 gallon top off, and it seemed my ph was dropping a bit too low. So the next week i switched to 3 tsp in 5 gallong top off and PH hasn't really dropped. My calcium has stayed at about 480-500 ppm range, and my Alk was at 11 dKH but now is down to about 9 dKH. Joe, I bet your SPS is really going to thrive now that you have the Top off and kalkwasser going!
i have the 40g reef tank, 55g which is my main tank that i have most of my corals ect. in, and a 30g tank dedicated to my green spoted puffers.
as soon as i can i will setup my 112g tank and run it and my 40g on a single system. then get rid of the 55 and the puffer tank. thats the plan anyways
WELL IT HASNT REALLY BEEN A FRAG TANK SINCE I TORE THE 40G DOWN THE 40G IS MIXED REEF, BUT MY 55G IM TRYING TO RUN AS LOW NUTRIENT IT DOESNT HAVE A SAND BED.
I ORDERED A JBJ ATO FOR MY 55G IT WORKS REALLY WELL YOU SHOULD ORDER ONE FROM THEM
i picked me up somekalkwasser a week ago and i done some research about dosing and the effects ect ect. however im posting this to kinda give some general information and to log about how i started to dose kalk and to see if it works for me and my tank.
this is the aproach i took to dosing kalk at this time, i read quite a bit about it and looked at reactors stirrers ect.
im going to keep a close track of my ph cal and alk. i statred off this evening with 1 teapoon on kalk in a 5 gallon bucket of ro hooked up to my auto topoff that pumps about 3 gal per hour of ro and my tank uses about 1 gallon of water per day in evaparation. so my tank will be dosed about 1cc of kalk per day. i will not know if this is enough kalk for my tank untill i see how my prameters react
