Well I got the overflow working and it works great! Apparently I wasn't keeping suction on the upright pipe long enough to allow it to establish a sealed siphon. I've powered off and on the pump about 20 times with no issues of it losing siphon. Im still considering a overflow box but this will work for now. I'll be posting some pics and a video in my tank build thread!

Round 2 built 3/4 inch PVC overflow made all the cuts and pieced the overflow together placed it in the bathtub in a bucket and it worked like a charm. Took it apart put the cement on the pipes re assembled allowed the pipe to cure and FAILURE! I am completely baffeled why this thing wont work.

Well got the Maxi jet 1200 in today and built the PVC overflow utlizing this type of design

Now physics wise this thing once primed should overflow butttt I cant get it to start overflowing let alone resume siphon after power outage. I realize that a drilled tank will remedy this but this particular situation is me dealing with a 10 gallon tempered tank.  Anyone tried this type of thing before and if so got any ideas as to why my particular system wont keep siphon to overflow? I'll try to post some pics tommorow and will continue to fight with the thing tommorow considering I got to be at work at 4:00 am and Ive been at battle with this stupid thing for 3 hours.
