When you turn off your main pump, how much does the sump rise? Also, can you adjust your over flow to where the sump will take on more water when the main pump is off? Maybe we can work something out so I can drop by one evening this week. I'm off Monday.

Alright I have a 33 long for a sump and it has 8in baffles the center one is my return and it is about 8in wide I would say it holds about 5 gallons. I don't see how I could do a 10 gallon water change form there. I really only see a way by pulling it out of the main tank.?. Thanks!
how big is your sump and if you could fill it up would it be enough for a water change. also is it possable to do a gravity fed drain on your tank. just trying to help come up with ideias but more information about what you have is needed.
I have enough room for some trash cans that what I use now. I get how to use valves to do the job. I just dont know how to drain it from the tank. I guess I will have to add a pump to the main tank. Because my sump ever fill up enough for me to do a water change. Any other idea on how to drain. Thanks
doing a water change by turning a couple of valves on ro and salt tanks is real easy but do you have room to store that water and who is going to mix it and check the salinityn on it ? If you have room for the storage tanks I can help with this for I have done it several times now.

I guess you could get real complicated with it and use some timers and pumps let your system shut itself down once a week and pump out so many seconds of water then that pump would kick out then have another timer to kick on the new water for so many seconds then shut off then have your system cut back on that would be awesome but I wouldnt trust it
Pick up a pump to do the work for you. Drop it into your sump, shut the main pump down and let the system settle. The sump should fill to a high point, then pump out the water. If the sump doesn't fill enough to remove the desired amount of water, remove it from your main tank, you can guesstimate 10g from a 55. Then drop the pump into your fresh salt mix, start your main pump & send it over to your sump watching not to over fill. (valve it)
*This can be done with tubing or hard plumbed (keep the new pump on flexible tubing so you can move it) *Hard plumb for the old water to tie into the drain (use a drain tee) You can hard plumb everything with 2 new pumps & do all the work with valves. I'll try to do a drawing later.

Good idea jt. A maxijet would do it, they are the only powerheads that I use. I was think of something a little more tech. The problem is my parent have a hard time picking up a 5 gallon bucket and would like to do a ten gallon water change at a time. I do have a sink nearby. I was thinking about running a line off of my return into the sink. I just don't know how to time everything. I also just thought of the my return pump. I would run dry before ten gallons empty out.
I was just thinking you could have two buckets of water one with a powerhead suckign the water out and one with putting the water in and put hoses or tubing on them. Then put them on the timers put the one putting water in liek half an hour afterwards. U must have enough water in the dran bucket to submerge it. Has for what kind of pumps to have i have no idea ask monty he"ll know i have never owned a powerhead.A maxijet would probaly work for the putting the water in the tank.As for taking use one of those ones they use for sumps.

Does anyone have idea on how to do one. It doesn't have to do everything by itself. But I need ideas on how to do water changes over the summer. My parents can do things on the simple level but that is it. I guess it is looking like I might still have the tank up and running. Before I came home once every two weeks and have done the water changes but I will not be able to this summer.
