Yeah I could see that but I believe that it would have to be a pretty significant amount.

yeah, i havent had any issues with that yet and i have that reay heavy crushed coral substrate and not much of my cleanup crew really sifts the substrate unfortunatley.

but i think the clumping they were talking about is caused by a chemical reaction and idk if any cleanup crew could stop that

it says on the bottle if you dose more than the maximum dose reguarly it can basically turn your sand into one big clump, thats if you have aragonite or crushed coral sand i assume

Yeah. This is true. That is why all the "pros" use calcium reactors lol among several other pricey pieces of equipment. There's no better solution than dilution . So water changes are austin but like joe stated, you would kill yoursel trying to do water changes that often. I can go close to a month now with crazy heavy feeding and my param's stay fine - minus my alk-calc dropping out of "good growth" range. That's why I dose about 20-30ml of 2 part alk-calc about 4-5 days a week.

idk seems like to me that if you have a tank stocked with a lot of stony corals you would be working your self to death trying to keep your calcium up just doing water changes alone. seems like you need to balance regular water changes and dose calcium and kh to keep everything growing well.

I usually make my own 2-part solutions and supplements.  All you need is calcium chloride (basically, ice melting flakes/pellets), baking soda and epsom salts (for magnesium supplementation).  You can also use pickling lime (from Walmart or grocery store), as a calcium supplement (e.g., kalkwasser).

Now that I only have soft corals, I haven't made the 2-part in a while, but I still add the pickling lime to keep the coraline algae growing nice and pink!

Here's a great link on how to make your own - plus, it will save you a lot of money in the long run:

You shouldn't dose calcium unless test kits say you need to. Good salt mix should have enough in it already. You'll only need to dose extra if you have a lot of hard corals that are using it up growing new skeleton.

Don't dose anything you don't measure.

ive been dosing c-balance for the past couple months and from what i can tell you need to figure out what your tank uses on a daily basis and dose accordingly. be sure to get your lvls where you want them via water changes then start dosing. and for more demanding tanks i would recommend reactors or powdered supplements, because the 2 part liquid supplements can turn your sand into one big clump also its going to be harder to keep your ph up

correct, but most of the life is used to and needs Ca at Ocean levels.
But you can do what you're doing for a while.

Not dosing at the moment but looking into it. But first can someone hit me with a reason as to why? I take it that unless I had a tank full of coral the demand for calcium isn't high enough to hurt anything??? Correct?

Thinking about doing Kalkwasser with a shot of Vinegar.
