As for the mouth being open, in some instances the mouth is open to filter particles in the water searching for food. A drooping mouth or the mouth being open all the time is one of the signs of poor health.. I have found that they do thrive better in turbulent current with plentiful lighting. -- Edited by Skimmer at 13:02, 2009-01-30
According to various research articles, bubble tip anemones shouldnt require feeding other than filter feeder foods such as plankton, etc. In my observations feeding whole foods creates prolonged problems with digestion and even in some cases color fade.
He is doing great! I soaked some brine shrimp and squid in some garlic guard and fed it to him, he closed his mouth around it and ate it!! He hasn't moved anymore so I hope that he is finally comfortable and it was just the stress from the LFS to my home...
Any further advice about the do's and don'ts of anemones that I should know about?
I come home and the anemone's mouth is closed. Yes he is responding to food when the current carries it into him. He curls his tentacles up around it and I have not seen him release the food. But I haven't seen him put it in his mouth either. I have not actually dropped food directly on him but I planned on giving him some squid directly tonight.
I had a bubble tip and when I first got it was slow to eat also Keep sprinkling food over it when you feed and you shoud see him eating. did he turn loose of the food you fed him or did he take it? Dont know about the mouth being open but I did see mine doing strang things.
Hi all! Ok so I am new to the anemone scene, but I went shopping this past weekend and I purchased a beautiful, huge, sebae anemone for my black perculas. So just needing a lil info on caring for them other then what I can find on the web...
Brought the anemone home, acclimated it to the tank, placed it in an ideal spot (Which I know it wouldn't stay as they move around till they feel comfortable.) It stayed there but moved before we went to bed. Unfortunately it moved right below the suction head for the filter, so we had to move it again just to avoid a tragic suction accident.. then took preventative measures to ensure the anemone can not get near the suction piece. We moved it to a place with moderate current and placed it on a rock. It has not moved since we placed it there... It was "sticky" to the touch when we moved it.
It is responsive to pieces of food (brine shrimp, flake, squid, and Formula One) landing on it from feeding the tank. It curls right around the food and looks as though it is moving the food towards its mouth. I have not seen it eat yet though. Here is my first concern... Its mouth is not closed or pursed like I have read it is supposed to be. It is open. It does not seem stressed, which I am sure it might be a little from the trip home and everything. I don't want to force feed it but I would like to make sure I keep it happy because my clowns are already in love with it.
Any insight would be great! Pics to come of it later, I haven't had a chance to get my camera out yet.
